We are thrilled to present an extraordinary collection of totally unique Character Jugs. This exceptional collection features some of the rarest and most exquisite pieces from Royal Doulton, each with a rich history and unique backstory.
The Origins of Stoke-on-Trent's Character Jugs
The city of Stoke-on-Trent was founded in 1910 through the amalgamation of six smaller Staffordshire pottery towns: Stoke, Hanley, Burslem, Tunstall, Longton, and Fenton. In 1960, to celebrate the city's Golden Jubilee, Royal Doulton produced a very limited edition of three large-size character jugs: Bacchus, Capt. Henry Morgan, and Izaak Walton. These jugs, featuring a special backstamp, were given to dignitaries attending the Jubilee celebrations, courtesy of the Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent, Alderman Harold Clowes, and Lady Mayoress, Miss Christine Clowes.
A Rare Opportunity for Collectors
This unique trio was purchased directly from the Royal Doulton archives by Pascoe and Company in 1999 and sold into a private collection. Now, these extraordinary pieces have re-emerged, offering another lucky collector the chance to add them to their own collection.
