For most of the last forty years Royal Doulton modelled a new Santa almost every Christmas. Some were open stock, most were limited editions of a few thousand, and once an edition closed it was gone. Ed has kept many of them, and for the festive season they come out together.
Father Christmas, year by year
The earliest here is Santa Claus HN2725, modelled by William K. Harper and made from 1982 to 1993. Many of the later ones are by Nada Pedley, who gave Santa a workshop full of toys in HN5312, an edition of 5,000, and a long fur-trimmed robe in Father Christmas HN5040. The tableaux tell a small story each: A Christmas Kiss under the tree in an edition of 3,000, a little girl handing Santa a present in A Gift for Santa, My Christmas Wish in an edition of 4,000.

The Snowman
Between 1985 and 1994 Royal Doulton made a series of figures from Raymond Briggs’s story: the Snowman himself, his friends from the party, and a whole band, a violinist, a flautist, drummers and a cellist, each about five and a quarter inches tall. They were made for a few years only, and collectors look for the full band.
