Harry Sales based the collection of 12 figures on the original animated drawings and they were approved for production by the movie company. Harry also designed a special Middle Earth stand for the Tolkien figures, which were launched between 1980 and 1982. The entire collection was withdrawn in 1984 when the copyright license expired, making the figures hard to find today.
