Description
Modeled by E. W. Light | Introduced c. 1917 | Khaki Coloration | Vintage Condition Crafted during the First World War and modeled by E. W. Light, Blighty (HN323) is a poignant Royal Doulton stoneware figure representing a British Tommy returning home from the front. “Blighty”—wartime slang for Britain—symbolizes hope, survival, and the emotional return from battle. Finished in a rich khaki glaze, the figure stands solemnly in full uniform: greatcoat, backpack, helmet, rifle, and canteen. His downward gaze and quiet posture convey the gravity of war and the relief of homecoming. This sculptural tribute was introduced around 1917 and retired soon after, making it one of Royal Doulton’s rare WWI commemorative issues. The base is inscribed with the word Blighty, while the underside bears the Royal Doulton England stamp and registration number 670072, along with a period handwritten label. A deeply evocative and rare piece, ideal for collectors of historic Doulton ware, military art, and WWI-era memorabilia.
