Description
Royal Doulton Character Jug, Izaak Walton (Bone China) D6404 (brown hat and coat, white collar). Designed by Geoff Blower, issued 1953 – 1982. Size: 7"H (Large) The English writer Izaak Walton (1593 – 1683) is best known for his book “The Complete Angler” or “Contemplative Man’s Recreation”. First published in 1653, this work became the most famous book written on the sport of fishing. The city of Stoke-on-Trent, founded in 1910 as an amalgamation of six smaller Staffordshire pottery towns, celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1960. To commemorate this occasion, Royal Doulton produced a very limited edition of three large-size character jugs: Bacchus, Capt. Henry Morgan, and Izaak Walton. These jugs, adorned with a special backstamp, were given to dignitaries attending the celebration, courtesy of the Lord Mayor of Stoke-on-Trent, Alderman Harold Clowes, and Lady Mayoress, Miss Christine Clowes.
