Description
An extraordinary composition by Royal Doulton, Matador and Bull (HN2324) captures the intense drama of the Spanish bullring in stunning ceramic form. Designed by Charles Noke, this sculptural group showcases the dynamic encounter between man and beast—an elaborately posed matador facing a powerful, charging bull mid-stride. The hand-painted figure is rich with movement and color, from the matador’s ornate traje de luces (suit of lights) to the realistic musculature and energy of the bull. Issued only between 1961 and 1967, this piece is among Royal Doulton’s most ambitious and limited figural studies, admired for its technical mastery and theatrical presence. Marked with the Royal Doulton backstamp and model number HN2324 on the base, this collectible remains a sought-after centerpiece for serious collectors of Doulton or fine 20th-century figurative ceramics.
