Mephistopheles & Marguerite HN775 – Royal Doulton Figurine
Designed by Charles J. Noke, this rare Royal Doulton double-sided figurine captures two central characters from Goethe’s Faust. One side depicts Mephistopheles, draped in a dramatic orange-red cloak, while the reverse features Marguerite, dressed in an ivory gown with gilded details and holding a prayer book. Issued from 1925 to 1949, the piece is part of Noke’s celebrated “Early Classics” series and is notable for its intricate hand-painting, rich contrasts, and dual-display design. Believed to have been inspired by Louis Icart’s 1928 aquatint Faust: Devil and Woman, this figurine remains a sought-after example of Royal Doulton’s literary-themed artistry. Height: 7.75 inches.
