This figure was produced in 1930, during the very first year of its manufacture and before Royal Doulton officially christened her Sweet Lavender. The impressed date code on the base confirms it was made on December 3, 1930. At that time, the management committee would not have gathered until after the holidays, in early 1931. When they reviewed the sample, they found the working title "Any Old Lavender" inscribed on the bottom. Deciding the name lacked charm, they chose instead the more evocative Sweet Lavender. With this change, the piece entered production as a delightful and enduring addition to the popular Street Seller series.
