In the 1920s and 1930s the great Art Deco figures were made in bronze and ivory and set on marble bases. Royal Doulton paid tribute to them with an Art Deco collection of four figures, each in a limited edition of 500. This one, modeled by Timothy Potts, is called Optimism.

All of it ceramic
What looks like bronze, ivory and marble is all ceramic, the faux marble base included, and the whole figure is made in one piece. It comes in a special edition box, made to keep the hands from breaking in shipping.

“Look how complicated this piece is,” says Ed Pascoe. “It’s a wonderful collection. And we don’t often get this.”

From the years of the originals
Royal Doulton made its own figures in the fashions of those decades. Leslie Harradine modeled Lido Lady, issued from 1927 to 1936, and Aileen, a seated lady toying with her string of pearls.
